INTergenerational REciprocity between Under 25s and Over 65s
The CHL – Center for Healthy Longevity – at the University of Bergamo, with the support of Lombardy Region, presents REINT2565: an important opportunity for the city to create intergenerational spaces for sharing, building knowledge and constructing dialogue. This initiative builds a collaborative effort between young people under 25 (students of the University of Bergamo) and older adults over 65 (citizens of Bergamo and its nearby province).
The project addresses a significant challenge: fostering active participation from the local entities and its citizens to promote activities aimed at creating a socially impactful benefit for all residents over 65 in Bergamo.
The project will be carried out through three key actions:
Living Together
A co-habitation project to break down stereotypes and support healthy aging. A person over 65 will host a student under 25 in their home. The aim of this action is to bring generations closer together by addressing the needs of both young people and older adults. In order to do that, the student will dedicate some hours of their time to engage with the host (a reimbursement for hosting expenses is provided).
Helping a Student
This action involves establishing "senior tutors" to assist working students. A relationship of trust will be built between the student and their tutor, allowing the tutor to attend classes on behalf of the student when they are unable to do so. Additionally, the action includes providing support to students in the preparation and revision of their final thesis.
Knowledge Workshop
This action organizes weekly meetings in the spaces of the University of Bergamo, creating opportunities for intergenerational exchange of knowledge and skills based on the interests and expertise of the participants. Older adults will take the lead in sharing practical knowledge that is part of their heritage, rediscovering arts and crafts considered obsolete. Hands-on workshops will offer opportunities to experience new shared activities together.
